Canarywood (Centrolobium species) grows in South America, from Panama down through Brazil. The heartwood ranges from pale lemon to a deep golden orange, and the best boards carry dramatic darker streaking — nature's brushwork. It's a solidly dense hardwood, heavier than Oak, with fine, even grain that machines and finishes beautifully.
Like most colorful exotics, Canarywood's variation is the point. When I lay out a top plate, I'm choosing which streaks ride the crown of the putter — it's the closest thing woodworking has to choosing a paint scheme, except the paint grew that way.
What Canarywood Brings to a Putter
Warmth and glow. Under our gloss finish, Canarywood lights up. On a sunny green it looks lit from inside — it's the wood that photographs best of everything we build.
A balanced strike. As a face wood it sits in the middle of our range — firm enough for a definite, responsive feel, warm enough to stay soft-sounding. Golfers who find Wenge too firm often land here.
Enough density to design around. Its weight supports the far-outside weighting our high-MOI heads rely on, without needing extreme lead pockets.
The Wild Side Story
Canarywood paired with a Padauk face became our Wild Side — first in the Woodrich Regal, and it got so popular we brought the combination to the FATTY body and the zero-torque center shaft too. There's a reason: the golden streaked crown with that flame-red strike line is the combination people cross the room at shows to pick up. If you want to see Canarywood at its best, the Wild Side builds are where to look.
On every face we laser engrave the strike zone to a consistent, chosen depth — the engraved texture grips the ball at impact so it starts rolling sooner instead of skidding. On Canarywood the engraving reads as crisp dark linework against gold.

Yes — it's a dense South American hardwood, harder and heavier than Oak, and every putter wears a weather-grade finish built for real rounds, not display shelves.
Why does every Canarywood putter look different?
The streaking varies board to board — some are nearly clean gold, others heavily figured with red and brown. We photograph each putter individually so what you see is the actual club you receive.
Does the color fade?
Canarywood mellows toward a deeper amber-orange with sun — most owners think it improves. The streaks stay visible for the life of the putter.
