Putter Care Page
Built to last. Easy to keep that way.
Exotic hardwoods like padauk, wenge, and walnut are dense, stable, and sealed under a durable clear finish. Routine care takes about a minute after your round.
The basics.
Our base recommendations for every TimberTouch putter. Follow these four and yours will look great for years.
Deeper care.
Reference material for the occasional deep clean and the long haul.
Cleaning
Now and then, clean the head with a damp cloth and a mild soap (an oil soap made for wood finishes works well), then wipe dry. That's a full cleaning — no scrubbing needed.
Conditioning
Every few months, a light coat of ordinary furniture polish keeps the finish lustrous and adds protection. There is no refinishing schedule — the factory finish is the finish.
Storage
Store it dry, with the headcover on. If the cover gets wet inside, leave it open to dry before putting the putter back in — a dry putter in a damp cover defeats the purpose.
What to avoid
Three things: soaking or immersing the head in water, days in a hot car trunk, and abrasive cleaners or solvents that can dull the protective finish. Everything else is normal use.
What's normal. What's not.
Natural wood earns character with play. Here's what to expect — and the short list of things worth a message.
- Grain, figure, and color unique to your head — no two blanks match.
- Colors deepening and mellowing over time. Padauk in particular ages toward a rich brown — that's patina, not fading quality.
- Slight finish dulling on the face after seasons of play, same as any premium putter.
- The finish softening from showroom gloss to a warm satin glow with handling.
- A crack you can catch a fingernail in, anywhere on the head.
- The finish lifting, bubbling, or turning cloudy white.
- Any looseness where the shaft meets the head.
- Anything that just doesn't seem right. Contact us — we'd rather look at a photo than have you wonder.

Care questions, answered.
Can my wood putter get wet in the rain?
Yes. The sealed finish handles rain and morning dew without trouble. Wipe it dry after the round and leave the headcover off until both are fully dry — prolonged dampness inside a closed cover is the only real risk.
How often should I condition or polish it?
A light coat of ordinary furniture polish every few months keeps the luster up. No oils, waxes, or refinishing schedule required — the durable factory finish does the protecting.
Does temperature matter?
Normal course conditions, hot or cold, are fine. The one thing to avoid is extended extremes — don't leave the putter (or any of your clubs) in a hot car trunk for days at a time.
Will it chip or wear like a painted putter?
Unlike painted metal putters, the wood won't chip. Use the headcover to protect it from contact with other clubs, and expect the finish to mellow into a warm satin glow with play — that's character, not wear.
A putter cared for this easily deserves a spot in your bag.
