Skid-Reducing Face Design: Better Roll, Better Accuracy
At TimberTouch Putterworks, we know that the first portion of a putt often determines whether it drops or drifts. That’s why every one of our putters features a face specifically engineered to reduce skid and start the ball rolling sooner—with greater control and predictability.
Our putters incorporate an engraved face texture that helps grip the ball at impact, minimizing initial slide. Combined with a thin, performance-grade coating, the face encourages quicker forward roll, reducing the unpredictable effects of skidding. The exotic tonewoods we use—selected not only for their strength and beauty but also for their natural responsiveness—offer just the right amount of surface grip. This balance helps the ball stay on line and roll with greater consistency.
In testing, standard metal putters typically allow a ball to skid for about 15% of the total putt distance. With our putters, that skid is cut nearly in half—down to 7–10%, depending on stroke and green conditions. The result? Your ball starts rolling truer, sooner. That early roll means more consistent speed, better distance control, and fewer unexpected breaks.  A skidding ball is a lot like a knuckleball.  You don't know where it may go and once it is off path while skidding, the ball will travel farther off path as it starts to roll.
Whether you're facing a tricky 6-footer or a long lag putt, our face design helps ensure your putt stays on-line and finishes strong. It’s just one more way we blend natural materials with modern engineering to give golfers a true edge on the green.
